MAGAZINE COLLAGE, 2021 - ONGOING

Magazines were the most essential element to culture in the pre-internet era. Not only was it a form of mass image disbursement, but the regularity of delivery and the disposability of the content created a perpetual hunger for more content. All with a sentiment that is different from newspapers in both tangible quality and specificity of audience.

Ascribing to certain magazines helped facilitate identity and generate cultural cliques. It’s a subscription to a concept: to a set of images one uses to invoke their ideal life and an indicator of interpersonal compatibility. The capacity to curate your own vision from a sundry of different magazines because of the medium’s modus was a quiet revolution in its own right.

I collected magazines, pages, and cut out images for about a decade before I put their contents into any real artistic use. These are not just reconstructed narratives, but an allusion to this age’s potential to reconstruct time. They are unconscious messages I try to convey as both impartially vague and subjectively meaningful throughout their existence.
